Everybody Loved Agnes

The town of Urbanna lost one of its bright stars this week with the passing of Agnes Taylor. She was 93 years young, was merry and positive, enjoyed a multitude of family and friends, was busy at her sewing machine with her seamstress work, and was active in the community and church until the last day of her life.

Everybody loved Agnes. A universal grandmotherly figure, Agnes was plump, rosy- cheeked, full of fun, white haired, and with twinkling eyes. She offered home-spun advice and a chuckle with every visit that could cure a thousand ailments.
Agnes, long famous in Middlesex County for her year long projects of hand- knit mittens and caps not too arduous, even for her old, arthritic fingers to handle for orphans each Christmas, was known for her love for people. She was a Baptist right down to her toes and carried unwavering faith through her long and well-lived life.

But Agnes went one step further than just loving people. She loved animals. A visit with Agnes always included her happy accounts of feeding the birds and squirrels and other wildlife and enjoying visits from neighborhood dogs who also adored her. She also loved cats. The last few months of her life was filled with special joy because of her beloved black and white kitten, "Boots."

There was nothing fancy about Agnes. She was not rich, famous nor powerful, she had no excellent education, no Hollywood beauty, and no special connection in society. But Agnes had the greatest treasure of all. Everybody loved her. She was one of Urbanna's best. She will be greatly missed.
